There's ice on the bay and there's ice on the ocean beyond that strip of land! We woke to 3 degrees. 3. Yeesh. Once it gets below 19 and there's no snow, it's just unnecessary & brutal!

teri said...: we left NYC to visit my daughter in Toms River last night and the bus broke down at exit 127 just above the Driscoll Bridge. Jo you know exactly where I mean if you are near Sandy Hook. There we sat, 0 degrees, as the bus cooled down, and cooled down, and cooled down.....finally someone at the back of the bus hollered out: " hey, I'm getting cold, but it's a darn site better landing here than in the Hudson River!"; Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 1:51:00 PM EST
GardeningJo said...: We used to live literally 5 minutes from the Driscoll Bridge seconds off Exit 120, so I know the area you were stranded in well Teri! (I grew up closer to here where we live now & Hubby grew up closer to up there - we moved here 3 years ago).

It may be brutally cold but it's quite beautiful. I grew up in Northern California and the first real snow or cold weather I experienced was when I went away to school in Iowa. You'll probably roll your eyes and say "it's so overrated" but I would love to see ice on the ocean. Seeing the ice on the bay & the ocean never loses it's wonderous affect on me! (If you go to my "Links to more of me" on my blog and click on My Picasa (or Photo) albums, look for "Frozen Valentines" and you'll see our bay completely frozen over!)

Nor does taking a ride out on Sandy Hook to the Lighthouse at Fort Hancock in the off season or standing at the top of the Twin Lights, looking out at the ocean, at Sandy Hook, at New York, at Naval Weapon Station Earl(e?), or walking along the Marina here in town & looking out at the boats & the Ferry & the Navy base & Fort Hancock - all of which I've done more times than I can count (along with other things in this very beautiful area we moved to 3 years ago) and it's always like it's the first time I'm seeing these things!

Heck, I still get WAY excited from a prediction of snow to the point where if I do sleep, I'm always waking to check & see if it's started yet. When it snowed here this October before Halloween, I squealed with glee (as I always do when I see glorious flakes falling!) and called my Hubby, my Mom & my Aunt. I know, I'm a nut but it makes me happy!)

GardeningJo said...: I love this area out of season so much more then when it's "in" season - it's so much easier to appreciate its' beauty & unique charms from Sept thru early May! Plus I'm not one for hot/humid weather or going to the beach anyway (except for Wednesday night concerts in Summer). It's "over rated" in ours some friends & families opinions because it's changing drastically here (in NJ as a whole) and not for the better. It's not like it used to be.
